This 13-window Volkswagen T1 Splitscreen Campervan is a wonderfully restored and lightly modified example of the stylish 1960s icon, presented in impressive overall condition.
Power comes from a reconditioned 1.6-litre twin-port engine, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox.
The odometer currently shows 29,299 miles, however this is not warranted.
First registered in May 1967, the vehicle is believed to have been among the last to leave the German factory before Volkswagen moved production of the T1 to Brazil.
This right-hand drive example was imported into the UK and registered with the DVLA in September 2007.
The vehicle was comprehensively restored and upgraded in 2021 by the technicians at UK Sports Cars.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This T1 is finished in Dove Blue, with cream bumpers, two-tone blue and cream vinyl-trimmed seats, a cream-finished dashboard, cream vinyl headlining, and high-gloss Finnish Grey laminate flooring.
It left the factory with the desirable 13-window and sliding door combination, as well as a set of 14-inch cream-edged wheels, which are currently shod in Kumho tyres.
During the modification process, the original engine was replaced by a reconditioned 1.6-litre twin-port unit, while the brakes were upgraded to a dual-circuit system.
The cabin has been equipped with a twin rear-facing setting arrangement, as well as a bespoke rear-facing oak-veneered cabinet, a glossy white laminate worktop with period Devon trim, a pop-up ‘island’ table, curved skirting boards, and a Rusty Lee full-width rock and roll bed with a powder coated finish and custom welded uprights.
Aftermarket electrical equipment includes an RGBW colour changing LED lighting kit, a Waeco CRX50 fridge, a 12-volt socket system with USB connectivity and an MPS35 mains adapter, a 12-volt leisure battery with a split-charge relay system, a 240-volt mains connection system with engine bay-mounted inlet sockets, and a Bluetooth-compatible Retrosounds radio with a Pioneer speaker system, and a separate Retrosounds under-dashboard speaker.
The vehicle will be accompanied by a collection of service records, which date back to 2007.
CONDITION
There has been no known bodywork damage.
During the restoration, the paintwork was resprayed in the popular Volkswagen colour of Dove Blue, which now presents with some minor scratches on the front end and door panels, but is in great shape overall.
As shown in the image gallery, the front ‘fisheye’ indicator lenses have faded, but this adds to the van’s classic charm.
Inside, a few surface marks can be seen on the rear seats, but the re-trimmed two-tone upholstery is otherwise in very good condition.
No mechanical or electrical faults have been detected.
This vehicle is exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age, however its most recent test was conducted on 29 April 2021 at an indicated 28,615 miles, resulting in a clean, first-time pass.
SERVICE HISTORY
This T1 Campervan’s most recent service was carried out at an indicated 21,000 miles, when technicians overhauled the brakes, refitted the fuel tank sender, and repaired the previously sticky throttle.
The belts were changed on the replacement reconditioned engine during the restoration process in 2021.
