The Charred Council. An ancient body charged by the creator to preserve the very fabric of existence. But the Balance has been broken.
This is my fan art recreation of the Charred Council from Darksiders. While I could have ripped the low-poly 3D assets directly from the 1st or 3rd game itself to use as a base, I did not. I reconstructed these from scratch using only in-game screenshots I took, and a very helpful image of the original uprezzed models made for Darksiders 3 by Brian Poche as reference. All this was done by studying those images and sculpting and tweaking for weeks on end. As such, there are some inaccuracies, but I think overall they turned out fairly true to the originals from the game, albeit with higher resolution texturing and displacement mapping.
I created every single asset in this scene down to the PBR stone textures. The majority of sculpting was done in Zbrush, the scene was constructed and completed in Maya. I simulated the fire and embers using the Bifrost Graph, and I rendered the finished scene in Arnold.
I am a huge fan of the Darksiders franchise, and have wanted to sculpt the Charred Council for some time. I look forward to seeing them again in-game sometime, and I eagerly wait for the unannounced fourth sequel to the franchise. I know one of these years it will be announced!
