When I was modeling the famous battleship HMS Dreadnought, I combed through various resources on the internet for technical drawings of ships and boats from the early 20th century. During this process, I came across one such resource on this website ( 50ft Steam Pinnace – On The Slipway). It specifically detailed the process of making a physical miniature model of a steam launch or to use its naval term, a steam pinnace. In addition to all of the historical information, there were some amazing dimensional drawings of the boat including some cutaway drawings showing the obscured parts. I decided to use these drawings and model a steam pinnace. I also used some real-world references taken from the popular Steam Pinnace 199 which is currently owned by the Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth. The first render that I have shown here consists of the steam pinnace at the forefront and all of my boat and ship models with some external assets such as the warehouses and sailboats in the far distances of the scene.
