Hey all!
There were competitions held by the Make Human community and every month had a different theme:
- Emotion
It's just happiness. I adore the feeling of being under shady trees on a summers day. So so so nice! Like my happy place, hehehe. This was actually my first entry and the look immediately drew attention. I'm glad! :D
- Action
For action, I went with what feels comical to me, but it's like other people didn't get it... I know sometimes visual communication is a bit lost, but eh, loved making this one! It plays on that moment when a character walks in somewhere and the stuff that is stacked quite high, starts to topple and they run like mad to get away. Absolutely love those moments and wanted to make it a smidge more epic! To do that, I added crates and a stylized motion blur.
- Playful
Playing volleyball on the beach has always looked like fun to me; never done it though. Obvious choice for this one! Make Human got a muscular topology and I'm not sure when, but I noticed it around this time, so I wanted to give it a shot, seeing that mr Beach over here was going to be shirtless. I made the hair using a new method at the time, that made plates for strands and I really liked the result! Used the method for a while, but now use a curve based method.
- Supernatural
Around Oct another comp surfaced and this time the theme was supernatural, because oct. So I wanted to do something, but I don't do Halloween, so I thought long about what to make and JESUS walking on the water was perfect!! Of course, it did draw controversy, because it's JESUS and not a witch doctor, lol, as another forum member pointed out. I'm not about going out of my way to stir, so the reaction was the reaction just cause. I got a lot of pointers shortly after posting and this one turned out so well, it was my facebook cover for at least a year, LOL. So cool!
In closing! I posted about Esther 6 a short while ago and that was my last entry for the make human community comps. Not because I didn't want to enter, but because it was the last one. Just after finishing, the next comp was motion - had to make some form of animation, didn't matter what. So I entered Esther, because I had finished it that month. It made a great impression and I was asked to talk about production on the Make Human website blog:

If you don't do competitions and you have the time to, start entering some! Just don't fall for spec work though - you're worth paying for.
Get your name out there! :D
Have a super day!
