The project started when I stumbled upon a very pretty photo of Symi island in Greece. The colors were amazing and it’s a place I’ve never visited. So I started working on this low poly recreation of the photo.
Pretty soon I deviated from the original photo and thought of making a much bigger “world” of this. I tried to maintain the feel and look of the houses and even added more stuff that were not in the original photo.
As I am writing this the project is not finished and I am still experimenting with the lighting and the render settings of Mental Ray in Maya.
My plan is to include a boat somewhere in the island’s harbor to give it a more tourist look , unless I make it a fishing boat :)
Will be updating this with more renders as the project continues and will give information about the settings I used for the environment.
Boats are now a reality! I have created three fishing boats of different sizes at the harbor. One is even textured with wooden painted planks.
Added a Jeep type car and plan to make just another car of different type.
Finally I created the first human on this project. A middle aged fisherman.
