Hey all!
Been working on this one for quite a while. Hold Frames are just soo cool!! I don't know their official name, but that's what I call them. Why? Because whenever they hold the last frame and fade to a painted version, it's part of a cliff hanger or conclusion of a matter.
I finally feel optimistic that I might be getting close to the look I really want! EECK! Super happy and thankful!!! Lot's of experimenting led to Color Dodge instead of Overlay, to get that white wash kinda vibe going. Water Colors respond like PBR shaders - thee desaturate often with smaller amounts and vice versa. Color Dodge has so far, been the closest look that may translate to other sources.
What makes this so hard is that it's a very artistically biased process that I'm trying to turn into a, for lack of better term, 3D filter. This is a VERY dark scene, so can't really be considered a precedent for the basic scene, but I am working on another scene I want to test this one and that is part of the 7 Nile Fish I published recently. They should also look incredible with this diagonal motif.
Performance and customizability are two really high priorities for this. I thought of making it "image" based, but the second you bring in harsh toon shading, you have nothing else to work with, so no... this does need the normal pass, so far, minimally.
So on that hold frame, lol, I'm out, hehe.
Hope you guys are having a suuuuper day!!
GOD bless you!! :D
