I just uploaded this as a model and man did it take some updating! You will recognize the final piece from "The King Is Troubled". And the progress shot just after I modeled it... EECK! :| , hahaha.
The biggest change to the model, was to remove the twisting on the loops. I wanted a rougher look, but it just looked like a bad low-poly handle all-round... I hated it... Had to fix it and make it all flow in a straight line and it looks stunning now!
I did multiple renders and found a bit of a bug in Blender's viewport render; it doesn't dump the memory usage after each frame - which means it piles up as it renders - yeah, crashes are inevitable! lol. For this one, most of the viewport rendering went really well - just the final was a bit much, but you really throw all the bells and whistles at it, lol. The HDRi's included with Blender's material view, are truly stunning! I totally recommend them for rendering stuff like this! MUCH faster!
I also learned a bit about SSS and sugar cubes. WOW, they are VERY translucent! lol. And, of course, that normals don't really export like you'd expect for other formats, so I left simple instructions on how to fix it in the description. By far, FBX and OBJ are my fav formats to export to, because they give me the least drama. DAE is also great. Not because the formats are an issue, but Blender's exporters are very unfinished, but I do go out of my way to make sure they work as well as possible for my models through exporting them and re-importing from those formats - really not bad.
Hope you love it!! I had a blast updating it and I know it's gonna be on of my best sellers! :D
