Nyonya Baba or Peranakan people are descendants of Chinese immigrants who came to the Malay Archipelago back in the 15th century. Nyona stands for the Peranakan women while Baba refers to the Peranakan men. However, the term “Peranakan” originally means local born.
They maintained their culture partially despite their native language gradually disappearing a few generations after settlement.
In their homes, this diverse culture are still present.
