The USS Zumwalt is the lead ship of the class, and the newest class of major surface combatants the US has built. Originally it was planned to built 32 units of the class, however all but three ships were cancelled after costs skyrocketed.
The class features many completely new and untested systems as well as a great change in design compared to older classes. However, these changes and modernizations made the class not viable to replace the Arleigh-Burke class. The newly designed VLS system is difficult to replace and modernize, the main gun system is highly costly to operate. Since the two main weapon systems are quite uneffective to employ at a great scale, only the stealth design proved as capable. It is expected that this design element will be carried to the new Congress-class of destroyers, which will finally replace the now aged class of Burkes. The Zumwalt class is hence the first class of large units which was cancelled on arrival.
Note: This model is recommended to be used in the 1/2000 scale. The models itself isnt scaled, the scale table is down below.
1/4000: 4,75cm or 1.87in
1/3000: 6,3cm or 2.48in
1/2000: 9,5cm or 3.74in
1/1000: 19cm or 7.48in
For self calculation: The USS Zumwalt is roughly 190m or 610ft long.
The model can be printed without any supports. I recommend using a resin printer for this. Up and Downsclaling might be possible, yet I dont know how much.
If you face issues with the model, have questions or want to propose some changes, please reach out to me, I am always happy to help. I am also open for suggetions for new ships which I havent done yet, as I am looking to expand my catalogue of ships.
