Description

Modelo en 3D de la Mission San Juan Bautista, California, USA. The buildings that face San Juan Bautista's central plaza represent several periods of California history. The mission, founded in 1797, is the oldest; it was located here by Padre Fermin Francisco de Lasuen because there were many Indians in the area, and because it was about a day's walk from either Mission Santa Clara or Mission San Carlos Borromeo at Carmel. In October of 1957 Alfred Hitchcock use the mission in some scenes in his film Vertigo with Kim Novak and James Stewart. Fans of the movie may notice that the bell tower, featured in two dramatic scenes in the movie, does not exist. The San Andreas Fault runs along the base of the hill below the cemetery. In 1906, there was a violent earthquake that shook the greater part of central California. The side walls of the church collapsed. They were restored in 1976. Vestiges of the original El Camino Real can still be seen north of the cemetery.
