Fanmade 3D models of characters from Tove Jansson's iconic Moomins book series.
The naked base models of the clothed characters exist solely for the proper fitting of clothing meshes, so please do not modify these models for rule 34! Please do not redistribute these models, either! Porting these models into other software such as VrChat, MMD or Garry's Mod is fully permitted as long as credit is given to me and the Janssons.
Moomin's fully rigged and mapped, and has particle fur. His textures, normals, and roughness maps are all in 4k. He also has a mouth rig that utilizes both projection modifiers and shape key drivers. Rather than a fully 3d mouth, he has a flat plane of vertices that can move freely around his face, and the illusion of the mouth being 3d is achieved via normal mapping, fake shading and a sort of parallaxing.
Little My took roughly a week to make, and is fully rigged and mapped. In addition to some personal aesthetic choices, I aimed to make this version of Little My essentially a hybrid of two of the most beloved incarnations of her character in animation: the softer, frillier looking My from the 90's anime, and the 3D-animated, eyebrow-endowed My from _Moominvalley _(2019). The model's bobblehead-like proportions, smaller nose, straighter bow tie and lack of gloves are based heavily on 2019 My, while the frillier dress, the individual teeth and the magenta shirt and trousers come from 1990 My. Some of the personal aesthetic choices I made that are absent in both are the more lifelike eyes, subtle skin texturing, ginger skin freckles, and a visible seam on the back of the dress where it buttons up. Her rig is very stretchy and flexible, allowing for some cartoonish, bouncy animation when necessary, and her facial rig consists of shape key drivers with a rigged tongue, jaw, and adjustable teeth. Even her skirt is poseable.
Snufkin was roughly a week of work, though progress was slowed down due to the power outages and wildfires that occured during late 2020. This design is a gestalt of his incarnations from Moominvalley (2019) and Tanoshii Mūmin Ikka (1990), with small hints of Opowiadania Muminków (1977 AKA Fuzzy Felt) Snufkin thrown in. His general appearance draws the most influence from 2019, but his color scheme, the feather in his hat, and the design of the clothes worn underneath his coat originate from 1990. The denim-like material of his jacket and the presence of pockets are from the 1977 stop-motion design. There are also some artistic liberties, such as the more real looking eyes and more individualized teeth. As with the other characters, he has 4k diffuse, normal and roughness maps. Unlike Little My, who has a facial rig that relies on bone-driven shape key drivers, Snufkin's facial rig is composed solely of a more conventional weight-painted armature.
My Too-Ticky design is heavily influenced by her depictions from Moominvalley (2019) and Tanoshii Mūmin Ikka (1990), With most of the design scheme originating from the latter in terms of character proportions. However, to stay true with her depictions in the original books, I gave her long-toed, primate-like feet, which she shares with her 2019 counterpart. Too-Ticky is fully rigged, with 4k texture, normal, and roughness maps. A bit more thought was put into the sculpt of her base mesh as well; I depicted her husky build as a natural feature of her species, and is reflected by a comparatively more robust and compact skeletal structure. Since she is also a craftswoman, I depicted her with noteworthy muscle tone on her arms and legs, since her occupation probably involves hauling lots of lumber to make things out of. I depicted the visible skin tone contrast between her feet and her body by adding a gradient where the skin tone gradually shifts from light to greyish-brown from her waist down to her feet. She even has puukko holder as well as a puukko knife; the knife can be unsheathed and held in either one of her hands via two copy transformation constraints.
The Groke is a composite of her designs in the 1990 anime and the 2019 CG series. Like the former, she is a dull greyish purple with a darker nose and large white teeth, but her body proportions and luminescent yellow eyes originate from the latter. All of her texture maps are in 5k, and her model is about 2.55 meters (8.38 feet) tall in Blender units, making her tower over the diminutive 3 foot tall Moomintroll. Her materials contain adjustable ice nodes that allow for the user to increase the body coverage of the ice and frost on her body. The Groke also has a limited facial rig that allows for intentionally stilted-looking facial expressions. She can smile and frown, but she cannot furrow her brow in anger or close her mouth all the way. She can express anger by glowing her eyes bright red and baring worn, broken teeth.
The hattifattener is fully rigged, with a very elastic, flexible armature with stretch bones, and the fingers have optimized bone controls for easier, simpler use. The diffuse, normal, and roughness maps are all in 3k, and the model has 9,040 polygons and 4,530 vertices. The materials also include a handy emission map that allows for the Hattifattener to bioluminesce and light up to electrifying effect.
Mymble's design is a composite of her incarnations from Tanoshii Mumin Ikka and Moomins On The Riviera. Her base mesh is almost the same as Snufkins', though it has of course been changed from that of a male to female, and the eyelids have been adjusted to match her canon look. Her texture maps are in 4k, and she, like all the others, is fully rigged.
