Price setting in different websites

Discussion started by hend-z

Do you set the price of your models based on your royalties in a particular website, like it's cheaper for websites with big royalties, or you just set the same price everywhere ?

I personally put the same price, I'm not sure if setting different prices helps earning more incomes, I don't think buyers take the time to compare prices in different websites, they usually choose a marketplace and stick with it.

What do you guys think ?

I personally set the same price on every website, but here on CgT i take part to the discounts, so, often my models are cheaper on this website, where royalties are higher

40% royalties on TS and 80% on CGT - i would be crazy if i'd set equal prices on my models on these two markets :]

Well said! I think there's a lot to consider when pricing your work. Part of that is royalties - what percentage do you earn on each sale? Part of it is volume - if you sell a greater volume on a particular site, is there value in adjusting the price to take this into account? Part of it is customer expectation - if you set your prices too low, will potential customers view this as a negative reflection on the quality? Finally, part of it is website preference - if there is a particular site that treats you well with excellent support and community features, the value that adds to your user experience may be worth a discounted price to incentivize customers to buy from that particular site over the less accommodating competitors. Like modeling itself, pricing is also an art.

The thing is, I put the price considering the value of the product, depending its rarity and its usefulness. Not how much I'm going to get from it.

For example, if i make a chair, that i feel it should cost $15, I get 11.4 in CGT and $6 TS. If I want to get about $11 in TS, I should put it at $29. Nobody is doing to buy it from me, it's too high for the market.

Market doesn't care how to theat you fair and equally, buyer doesn't care where to buy that you could benefit from that as much as possible. Why you should care about buyer's wallet, it's a mystery to me. Maybe you should start to care about markets too - cgtrader gets much less from your sales than turbosquid does, maybe you should donate some of your revenue to them voluntarily? ;]

You misunderstood me. I'm not saying that I put the same price because I care about buyers wallet, I'm saying, if I increase the price in TS to get the same revenue in CGT. The price will become too high for the product, and nobody will buy from me in TS, because buyers will find similar product at lower price.

Did you ever tried? Numerous sellers does that, including me and no one seems to have problems with it. OTOH, if you're so sure about your pricing policy, why do you ask for others opinion? Keep prices as it is and be happy ;]

Where did I say that I'm sure about my pricing policy? Actually I've never tried, I'm thinking about it though, so I want to know about other sellers experience.

That's True! CGtrader does so much more for us as artists compared to any other site I have ever tried. They give us a big cut of earnings every time we sell and the amount of feedback, customer support etc... is really unmatched!

It is so hard to find that perfect sweet spot where your price is low enough to attract buyers but not too low that buyers feel there may be something wrong with it, especially if your models are fantastic.

As far as 3D printable models go... it is obviously a different ball game. How do you guys price your models? I notice that with regular models I am able to sell them when they are priced in the range of 7 to 35 but I have yet to sell any of my 3Dprintable models.

Do 3d printable models sell better at higher or lower prices? I am new to this part of sales so I need advice!
