HEEELP! What to do in case of a unpaid job?

Discussion started by NicolasVP

Hi everyone, i've been working in a private project for a client for like a month, then we talked and agreed the price of the project after i finished it, i delivered the project and then i've been asking about the payment with the client, the last time i talked with the client he told me that the payment would be made in a week (i forgot to say that the project doesn't have a fixed deadline, but i tried to deliver it as soon as i can because it was for 3d printing for a cosplay and it needed time to be done for him), then i've been waiting for almost a month and a half, until now no answers or payment seen.

What can i do?, cgtrader can help me?, does my work will be paid, and if not what should i do?; The client was very happy with my job done, he said that he will give me an stellar review but, i don't see any message or payment done :/, PLSSS HELP.

The question is, did you secured whole payment before you started working on a project, if answer is yes then contact support, if answer is no, you have worked for free and no one can help you.

Then i guess is the second one, i thought that if i wanted to secure the payment i needed to show advancements or send the job, i just agreed with him to a corresponding price (also edited the offer of the project for that price) and when i ended the job i was just waiting for the payment, but as you said it seems i worked for free.

If you already haven't, send him a message and explain him what happened and what needs to be done for you to get paid for your work.
If the client doesn't answer you, then he's an a**hole and you have your lesson learned.

In fact, the job was already sent, i was just waiting for the payment to be done, as he said before to me "I will be back in this week im going to pay as soon as i get in I really appreciate the work and communication", so i waited for the pay, but looking at the delay of 1 month and a half i started to get impatient :/.

This customer should get banned and blacklisted until this gets resolved. An agreement was made, and you delivered. Even if this is resolved, artists here should be aware of this customer's attitude.

I have no idea. I'm was just supporting you and giving CGTrader a suggestion to improve agreements between artist and buyer. Have you contacted CGTrader and asked what can be done? The admins don't necessarily read all the forums.

CGT have nothing to do with this, there are set of rules that needs to be followed in order to not get scammed, and will someone follow those rules are up to them. Rule number 1 is to secure whole payment in front so that you can't get in situation like this. Cgt can make (maybe they should) this mandatory but then business flexibility will be lost, because a lot of people here have regular customers, so this flexibility makes life a bit easier for both. A lot of people here doesn't know how project system works so they should ask before they decided to go for an "adventure" of doing work for free, other knows very well how it works but are still thinking that they will get better "relationship" with a customer (customer won't look for other designer) if job is paid once it's done which is wrong thinking. The best thing to do in order to avoid scam is to avoid customers who doesn't want to pay in advance. There are scammers who will pay, in this case cgt support will deal with those.

But the problem is that if he doenst pay, and cgtrader allows it, then it can happen again and again, dont you think so?, what I was wondering is if somehow cgtrader can contact the client, and in case its not paid they can do something about it, after all, after all what ensures that it does not happen again? (and im sure it does happen to a lot of people).

There is no problem, you created problem to yourself by not following the rule. If you don't follow the rule that mean that you don't agree to CGT Terms & conditions and CGT support stop right there in regards to that project. Ask customer to pay before you star working on a project, you finish the project, cgt pay you, you wont be scammed never again, end of story. If you secure the payment cgt will help you if you have any problem, but if you agree to work outside CGT rules (without securing the payment) you are on your own. Tell me how someone gonna do it again and again and again if he have to pay in advance, before he even see the model ? Why is so difficult to understand ?

Can't they hold the money in an escrow account to prevent something like this happening? Mind you that might be a lot of administration and dealing with details, so that won't happen.

-Customer contact designer (start project) and ask him/her to create let's say custom car model for him/her. -Designer said to him/her that in order to create that model it will cost, I don't know, 200$. -If price is agreed customer must pay 200$ in front and CGT hold that money until project is finished. When project is finished and customer is satisfied CGT get their cut and rest payout to the designer. If customer doesn't want to pay in front than you are risking working for free (be scammed) because there is no guarantee (guarantee is that in front paid money that CGT hold) that customer will pay you at the end. As you can see CGT have nothing to do with this, designer/seller is the one who decides what to do.

Hi everyone! Perhaps this is the same fraudster. She ordered a cosplay costume from me, but said she would pay later. I provided the previews that she stole! And she exhibited the work again with my previews. Be careful, never do work without pay. Nobody refunded the money to me. My time was wasted!
