CG Trader Broken Editorial Use

Discussion started by dustinmeyer1234

I have bought alot of items off cgtrader I tend to buy items that are royalty free sense I might use them in a short or maybe in a video game. it has gotten to the point tho that sellers are putting the royalty free tag on items that are not. I been seeing every kind of spider man or iron man in the scfi section with royalty free. this has got to stop, I now have to reverse google image search every item I am buy, sense sellers are trying to pass off Copyrighted materials as royalty free. I started reporting these sellers but cgtrader moves so slowly I started to directly content the Content holders that own these items letting them know there are sellers on cgtrader they are selling there ip. I left turbo squid because of this and now looks like cgtrader is heading down the same path. if you are a marketplace person on here I would start looking for other more vetted platforms. I really hope they fix this or start taking down stores that dont want to spend the 3 second it takes to make an item editorial. I was on here during the Fuse Model issues where people selling Fuse models that was agnist Adobes terms of service, I gave lists to cgtraders of sellers that where doing this, sadly only a few got taken down.

It is true that on cgtrader there is a lot of models with incorrect licensing. Partially because many sellers doesn't know, or doesn't care about correct licensing, partially because there are sellers who intentionally sets royalty free license on the models that could only be selling with editorial license. Many marketplaces does monitoring of licensing misuse and they force and lock editorial licenses on appropriate models. Unfortunatelly cgtrader does none of that and that leads to great confusion and potential misuse of the models.

super agree I contacted them they where pretty much its up to you to know if its copyrighted material and they do not monitor any of that all they do if a ip contacts them to take something down then they do it. so reporting really doesn't do much anyways unless your the copyright holder. I wish I knew of a easy way to contact these ip holders just to clean up cgtrader, its turning into the garbage dump like turbosquid turned into.

Fuse models are still on sale here on cgt , some of them are promoted here on the forum
https://www.cgtrader.com/forum/selling-buying-3d-models/great-offer-for-buyers-naina-female-rigged-character
Same person: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/character/sci-fi-character/diana-pose-chatacter
Of course both model with Royalty Free License .
Beside that there was also a couple of stolen models from Squir etc. which support removed as stolen, but for some reason they doesn't want to ban this person. The most laughable thing to me regarding this is, that those peoples who sell those fuse models doesn't even want to bother to "dress" them up a little bit and render them, instead they just use screenshot of the model and that's it.

super agreed I use to report these in droves but talking with cgtrader they do not care I was told by support unless the trademark holder contracts them you have to "do your own research before you buy". I states in Adobes Terms of service that you cannot restribute in anyway models made with fuse, its just luckly 90% of the people who sell fuse models put in no effort and I know what they look like so I can avoid all of that. I started stop buying from cgtrader and switching to daz marketplace and unreal engine marketplace at least those assets are curated.

this still seems to be a Problem that cgtrader doesn't care to address, the only hope I have is the seller says in the post what items they copied. I taked directly with cgtrader support and they said its my responsibility to vet items others are sell before I buy. this is why I rather buy from Daz3d or from epic games when it comes to 3d models as at least they have standards for copyrighted items and how to report them. I really really hope cgtrader get spanked by Disney or some other company on their lack of oversight on what get put up on their site as royalty free.
