Real-life objects PBR challenge
End of February marked the end of the first PBR Challenge organized by CGTrader, and we must say that some really amazing artwork was brought to the competition by our community. You can check the winning entries here. We had over 660 entries, so it seems that you indeed are interested in the trend of PBR!
If you still haven't experimented with Physically Based Rendering (PBR), this new challenge is just right impulse to start doing that. PBR is becoming a real standard in the gaming industry, so to meet the needs of game developers, those interested in that market will likely have to adjust at some point.
This PBR challenge does not have very specific category restrictions, just this time we want to focus on real-life objects objects - furniture, plants, architecture, tools, electronics - just look around your physical environment and get to work. We love the creative 3D artwork you publish on CGTrader, but this time no sci-fi content is allowed. And yes, PBR textures is a must!
Our friends at Quixel, Marmoset, 3D-Coat and Dosch Design are joining in this competition, providing some great prizes, and CGTrader is throwing in a $500 in cash for the winners.
Now, take a deep breath of spring air, get back to modeling and make something that will leave everyone in awe for this competition!

Frequently Asked Questions
Please go through these questions before contacting us
Do I need to upload files or only images of my 3D design?
You need to upload files and images of your 3D design in order to participate in the challenge.
How do I know my model is eligible for the PBR Challenge?
While uploading your 3D Design, click on the PBR Challenge checkbox to mark your model as an entry. Provide the PBR texture details in the model description for it to be eligible entry, and this time the object modeled should be a real life object, so no sci-fi model will qualify.
I don't want to put my entry model for sale. Do you have any suggestions?
Does earning money from your digital files sounds like a bad idea? Just try to put higher price on it, let's say 300 USD.
I don't want to lose copyrights on my model after it is sold.
There are Royalty Free, Editorial and Custom licenses for you to choose under which you want to operate. Individuals or companies that buy Editorial licensed models can't use it for commercial purposes. If you would like to earn your share of commercialized end product - you can add some specific terms on the model usage. Also, these all types of licenses do not remove your right to sell models in the future or in other shops, so no worries - you won't lose the copyright.
How can I participate in the challenge?
Design a great looking photorealistic 3D model for the challenge and upload it to CGTrader.
What if I put the required tag on my already published 3D model on CGTrader - do you treat it as a valid entry?
No. Only 3D models uploaded in the period from the 1st of April, 2017 to the 28th of May, 2017 will be treated as valid entries.
Do free 3D models participate in the challenge?
Yes, absolutely. Sharing artwork is always appreciated in the community.
Can I enter with 3D models which participated in other challenges elsewhere?
Yes. There are no restrictions on publishing and selling your models elsewhere.
Do price tags play any importance when entries are being judged?
No. But do not forget that the prices are always judged by the customers.
I want to participate in the challenge so I am going to delete my already uploaded models and upload them again to meet the "publishing period" requirement. Can I do that?
No. We are tracking every deleted and uploaded model, so it is useless to drive-through our requirements of the challenge.
