New games are coming to VR! Old games are reborn with modern visuals! Launch titles are announced! So, you know, things are happening in the video game industry.
Deadmau5 VR Game Incoming!
Who doesn't want to experience the life of hit DJs? Now you can do that through the technological magic of VR. Absolut Labs, which, surprisingly enough, is the digital department of the Absolut vodka manufacturer, partnered with the famed DJ/mouse impersonator deadmau5 to bring his life to VR in Absolut Deadmau5, Drive his car around Toronto, go to parties, spin some tunes and (probably) polish your mouse helmet. The game is available for both Android and iOS devices, plus you can also buy the fanciest version of Google Cardboard we've seen, the limited edition deadmau5 headset. For some reason, the design features a cat.
System Shock Reboot Gameplay
System Shock is a legendary 1994 game that inspired - among other things - the BioShock franchise. Well, it is making a comeback via Kickstarter project to reboot the first game. The developers have even provided a demo (remember when those were a thing?) so that the potential players could appreciate the work they're doing. And here is some recorded gameplay footage! You can see that the Hacker is back and he's plugging in random technology he just found like it's nobody's business. It's just like the old days!
Rhythm Game Thumper On PSVR
If you like rhythm games and paying money for PlayStation 4 peripherals, you're in luck! Thumper, a rhythm game, is going to be one of the PS VR launch titles! It's a game about guiding a metal bug sliding down a rail and pushing buttons to the beat. So the premise is strange, but it's going to be the trippiest VR experience yet!
Quake Is Going To Be PC Only
Quake Champions is coming and coming to PC only. Creative director Tim Willits provided this explanation in an interview for GameSpot: "It’s everything from input sampling of the mouse to making sure that your monitor refresh rate is fast enough. Because even with Quake Live, we have found throughout the years that going from 30 to 60 is huge, but even 60 to 120–is noticeable. Most of us, and even me, I can’t really tell the difference. But there are some players who are inhuman. And we can’t come out and say we’re going to make a game for them and not run ridiculously fast Because if we lose the pro guys, we’re in trouble. That’s why it’s a PC game. No excuses. No limitations."
HTC Vive spearheads $10bn VR VC group
VR Venture Capital Alliance (VRVCA) is a new venture capital groups of 27 companies which is headed by HTC Vive. Technically has $10 billion in "deployable capital," though not all of it might be spent on VR. The VRVCA meetings will be held every couple of months in San Francisco and Beijing where the company will hear out pitches from people who need money for their innovative VR ideas (not only game related) as well as those targeting augmented reality and mixed reality.
