VR Dinosaurs in Robinson: The Journey
Crytek aren't strangers to games set in jungles - I mean, that's where both Crysis and FarCry got their start! However, this jungle is set on another planet and it features dinosaurs! Yes, Robinson: The Journey is a game about a crashed space traveler. He has a future gizmo that helps him manipulate items similarly to a gravity gun. He also has a sassy floating drone companion which looks like an eyeball and communicates in pictograms. Am I feeling parallels with Portal? Maybe, but this game has more exploration and puzzles than jumping and platforming. Plus, it's in VR! The game will launch on October 13th to coincide with the release of PlayStation VR.
Shoot To Grow Bigger In Morphies Law
Robots are out there and they're shooting each other! However, in Morphies Law, each hit on the enemy transfers their body mass to your corresponding body part. So someone who lands a lot of headshots will be running around like a bubblehead while those who target legs will soon be able to stride over buildings. Yes, the body part growth mechanic impacts the game in more ways than just making your avatar freakier! Successful players will get bigger (and easier to hit) while the losers will shrink and be able to get into tight places. The progress of your team will also be shown by the size of the team avatar, a giant robot which changes size depending on your team's combined body mass. It's truly a wild game!
VR Finally Enables A Decade Old Dream Of A Game Studio
Insomniac Games (Ratchet and Clank, Spyro, Resistance) are pretty hyped about the upcomming Oculus Touch controls and they already have a game in the works to make use of it. The Unspoken is a multiplayer VR game about being a mage in an urban setting. The spells can be keyed to your hands, and some of them require some finesse to cast. For example, you need to draw a rectangle to call out a shield spell. Or there's one spell that gives you a hammer and you need to strike an anvil several times to produce a golden spear that you can then throw. Insomniac had been sitting on this idea for about ten years and finally the technology is there to make it happen!
Mysterious New Magic Leap Star Wars Product
XLab is a department of LucasFilm that was formed last year to work with all sorts of VR/AR possibilities. Well, now they're in a partnership with the mysterious Magic Leap to produce a mixed-reality Star Wars product. The video does look impressive, but it's really hard to say anything more, considering how little we all know about Magic Leap.
