What happened in the video game industry this week? Let us find out by taking a look at new mascots and wonderful mods!
Kojima Looking For A Game Engine
Hideo Kojima, that mad genius of game designer and the Japanese version of Tom Clancy, had split off from Konami some time ago. He also went and started his own game studio, albeit without blackjack or hookers (as far as we know). The Kojima productions recently revealed a futuristic space suit wearing skeleton Ludens (from Homo Ludens, a book about play‘s importance to social evolution) as their mascot. And now, Mr. Kojima is touring the world looking for a game engine for his new production. While he expressed that the studio would prefer to work with their own internally developed tools, various considerations force them to seek externally developed game engines.
Of course, aspiring game designers among can probably do with less pomp, and just use Unreal Engine 4 or Cryengine with assets bough from CGTrader!
Fallout 4 Resurrection Mod
Why should the end of the world be dry and dreary? Fallout mod creators don‘t think that nature would perish together with civilization and thus they have made the Fallout 4 Resurrection mod. This mod coats the wasteland in green. Grass is growing, green trees replace dry old stumps, and moss and wine is creeping over buildings and husks of cars. It follows the footsteps of similar mods for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, so at least that part is not surprising. Download the mod here!
Nintendo To Make Movies
Nintendo made a movie once. It was the Super Mario Bros., and it was a live action train wreck that convinced them not to make movies anymore. Well, years and years have passed and now, CEO Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed (in an interview to Asahi Shimbun) that company is going try once again. The movies will be either CG or traditionally hand animated, and Nintendo will be heavily involved in the production. However, it will seek outside partners for worldwide distribution and what not. However, we still have no idea what IPs will be chosen for the films!
ARK Pays For Mods
ARK: Survival Evolved is a game about punching trees while shouting “videogames are art” and killing dinosaurs for fun and profit (mostly fun). Well, it turns out that the developers are so close to the player community, they’re going to be paying for quality mod content. The creators of maps “The Center” and “Primitive+” will receive cash that equals several month of salary for a creative and hired to the team. And while hiring modders is not going to become commonplace at the developer Wildcard, they will still reward further skill modders.
Halo 5 Forge Map Creator Free On PC
Halo has not visited the PC shores for some time. However, it might be inching towards, albeit very slowly. Microsoft has announced that Forge – Halo 5: Guardians edition is coming to PC and it’s going to be free. Yes, PC players will be able to make maps for Xbox One players to run around in. Some of the featured include mouse and keyboard support as well as running everything at 4K resolution. Hopefully, this is but a teaser of Halos to come!
65 Million GTA V Copies Shipped
GTA V is as big as GTA has ever been. Unsurprisingly, it’s selling extremely well, to the point where 65 million GTA V copies have been shipped to date. The game has sold 5 million copies since February. Released on PC last year, it had moved 13 million copies during 2015. Oh, and let us not forget the half a billion dollars the players had spent on microtransactions as of April. The developers must be truly swimming in cash!
