Trailers are no less important for video games as they are for movies. And they give the developers a chance to show off both their game and their cinematography skills. Here are the 10 best trailers of upcoming games that left us wildly impressed! It's just like we did last year!
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - 101 Trailer
Deus Ex is one of the best and most influential FPS and RPG games out there, so people were justifiably excited about Deus Ex: Human Revolution. And since that game turned out to be good, everyone is looking forward to Mankind Divided. Adam Jensen is back, and the implants that he didn't ask for have layers of new technology in them, allowing for a more varied approach. 101 trailer deals with Adam's capabilities in combat and stealth, as well as the consequences of the approach he chooses. Gameplay footage meshes well with in-engine cutscenes, and we know exactly what to expect from the game.
Halo Wars 2 - Official E3 Trailer
Halo, the series about alien slaying cyborg badass Master Chief, took an unexpected turn into the strategy genre with Halo Wars. Well, the console RTS game is getting a sequel with Halo Wars 2. This time, the players will be fighting the Banished, a new faction based... on the same aliens we've been fighting before. Of course, the trailer betrays little of these details, as it shows two commanders walking towards each other amidst battlefield carnage that keeps getting frozen (and unfrozen) in time. It doesn't show much of the game, but we're unlikely to be missing much, since it is a console RTS (that's also coming to PC). However, the CGI work in the trailer is beautiful and the music is top notch.
Mafia III - E3 2016 Trailer
Mafia was a great game, taking the GTA formula for spin in a more grounded world of the golden times of the gangsters. Great story, collapsing phone booths and cars that done exploded from being shot in the door were but many of the great things about the game. Mafia III takes the game a lot further in time. New Orleans, a black soldier just back from Vietnam and a quest for vengeance against one of the top criminal families out there. The trailer shows it all - variety, violence, car chases... We just cant wait!
Detroit: Become Human - E3 2016 Trailer
David Cage is a game developer that desperately wants to be an artiste, even it results in his games making little sense or involving excessive amounts of shouting "JASON". However, he does have some flair with gameplay and cinematographical flair, so the trailer to his newest work, Detroit: Become Human, is really an eye pleaser. You can see one of the game's scenes unfold according to the choices of the player, and it really sells you on the branching choice paths in the game. It might also want you to sell on the bleeding-edge graphics, but we know when we're supposed to be careful. Still, it's an amazing trailer!
Final Fantasy XV - E3 2016 Trailer
Cars, evil elf wizards, emo K-Pop band protagonists, machinegun turrets, rideable giant chickens, giant robots, sci-fi flying ships, dragons - somehow, they all come together in Final Fantasy. To see such things stand side by side in Final Fantasy XV is hardly surprising and we're treated to a lot of in-game footage showing both combat and character interactions. It also shows the PS VR component of the game, which is... less than impressive, but hey, a VR component to the game!
Battlefield 1 - Official Gameplay Trailer
Battlefield 1 surprised everyone by taking the series to (alternate) World War I. And the official gameplay trailer seems light on actual gameplay, interspersing exciting and no doubt highly edited bits of gameplay-ish stuff with cutscenes. I mean, there's no footage of spawning and being immediately sniped by someone from the other end of the map. Still, the game looks good and it looks like fun, so totally unlike the real World War I.
Dawn of War III - Announcement Trailer
So far, all the footage we have seen of the newest entry into the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series looked terribly unimpressive. The announcement trailer, however... We have no clue what is happening in it, but it sure sets the tone and atmosphere of a grim and dark future that sees only war. Space Marines, Eldar and Orks all clash in an endless battle and lives are reaped left and right. Imperial Knight slices through its Eldar counterpart, and a Space Marine sergeant gets cut in half because he thought that charging a clanking Ork Killa Kan is a good idea. It's grim AND dark, I'm telling you!
Titanfall 2 - Official Single Player Gameplay Trailer
Titanfall is similar to Battlefield, only much smaller in scope, and all the vehicles are replaced by giant robots that fall out of the sky. It's awesome! And the game now has a sequel, a sequel that comes with a single player campaign! This campaign will see you pal around with a Titan that had lost its pilot, and you will go on many important missions together. Someone will probably have to sacrifice itself in the end to
get emotional involvement points complete the mission. All the robot action looks cool, and it's great to see some more of Titanfall's fast paced acrobatic combat.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands - We Are Ghosts
Ubisoft can get a little tricky with the promises they give out in their trailers (for example: anything to do with the visuals of Watch Dogs), but at least the Wildlands trailer looks graphically simple enough to be true. And it's really pretty in execution, making the game seem like it's going to be fun. The narration is corny, but we can't fault his voice!
Horizon: Zero Dawn - E3 2016 Trailer
What if Earth was taken over by dinosaur robots? That's a premise that could not have come up without some substance abuse, but here we are, watching a redheaded stone age tribal hunt robotic antelopes and what not. While the twist of the game is probably going to be underwhelming - I mean, what non-goofy thing would have caused futuristic robot dinosaurs to drive out modern humans into the wilds - but the gameplay looks cool. Plus, the robot the designs are nothing to scoff at, either, and so the trailer wins our love.
