This is probably the best way to start your week. A chat with Milan Stevanovic, founder of A+Studio left me feeling motivated, inspired and wanting to create something myself! Take a look as Milan left quite a few incredible 3D scenes, interesting insights and some useful tips for designers to succeed in 3D world. Don't forget to let us know how would you describe his works in three words!
Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got into the 3D industry?
Hi, my name is Milan Stevanovic, I am Serbian architect (M.Arch) and 3D artist. I'm CEO and founder of A+ studio. Given that architecture is closely related to 3D, getting into 3D industry was a natural thing to do. As a student you find all of those things very interesting, explore all kinds of different software solutions. Eventually you find the thing that you are comfortable with and try to improve your skills from there.
What are the most important characteristics to become a recognized artist according to you?
I must say that for me the most important characteristic for an artist is his style and being different. There are a lot of artists out there, and we all use more or less similar tools in our work. But that's just what they are - tools. What you do with those tools and how you use them defines you as an artist and makes your work recognised. It is that little thing that you notice, that personal mark that every artist should have in his work. Pixar is a great example of that for our industry, when you see animated movie you do not need to see their logo to know that they did it. No need to go further into the past and mention all of the great painters and how you can recognise their paintings among thousands of others.
What research methods do you have?
It depends on what I need to research, but it is safe to say that internet and search engines are getting the job done almost all of the time. Other than that, the world that surrounds you is always a great source of information.
What tool would you consider indispensable for your work?
Beside standard computer hardware and software when it comes to detail modeling and sculpting I think that Wacom tablet is a must for every serious artist. It is the tool that not only adds a whole new level of detail and precision to your work, but also lets you express yourself in a way that computer mouse just can't. Other great tool is a 3D mouse, it is particularly helpful for those small details, when you need to really zoom in. It also adds more natural way of moving through 3D space.
How would you best describe your projects in three words?
I don't think that it is appropriate for me to talk about that. It is something that should be said by others. What I can say however is that in the future I would like for my projects and projects of my studio to be recognized as different, creative and with style. For now lets just say that they could be better!
What/who are your influences in life?
My biggest influences in life are my wife, my family and friends.
How do you take a break from work? What are your hobbies?
Since the work that I do is pretty much tide to a chair and computer screen I try to be active in my free time, whether it is a simple walk or playing basketball with my friends. In a past I was really passionate about the graffiti and used to paint whenever I could, but somewhere along the way architecture took over! There is not much free time left at the end of a day, so I try to spend my time with friends and have a good time.
Are there any future projects you can tell us about?
There are a couple of, for me, interesting personal projects that I am working on in my free time and I hope I will finish at least one of them by the end of a year! When I do I will upload it here in our gallery.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself happy with my wife and kid(s), doing the work that I love and business getting better and expanding. And traveling the world. Yes, definitely traveling the world!
