June 30 is the Asteroid Day! It's a " global awareness campaign where people from around the world come together to learn about asteroids, the impact hazard they may pose, and what we can do to protect our planet, families, communities, and future generations from future asteroid impacts." The even is held every year on anniversary of the largest impact in recent history, the 1908 Tunguska disaster. And modelers are thinking about asteroids, too! Comets are icier than asteroids and that is what helps them get their flashy tail. Plus, I guess they're big enough that you wouldn't want them to crash into your planet either. Also, there was a really fast WWII British tank by that name. Has anyone named their fighting vehicles after asteroids yet? Yeah, I didn't think so!

Plus, it's a good way to drop any ships carrying mysterious alien bioweapons that meld technology and biology. Asteroids are basically space's couch pillows.
Blue asteroid by allexey_3dartist
This isn't a photorealistic asteroid, but damn if it's not the most stylish one! I can totally see myself flying past in a stylized, low poly ship that is painted in bright colors. and decked with oversized guns. If I wanted to establish a pirate base, I'd choose this asteroid for sure.
Detailed Asteroid by iterateCGI
This is an asteroid that's definitely going into a CG scene. Ships are going to fighting around it. Giant robots piloted by teens are going to be using it for cover. It will be providing an awesome view through a space station window. Possibilities are endless for this ambitious young space rock.
