3D Printed Bicycle Accessories Challenge: Let’s take it to the streets!
Competitions
When it comes to navigating your city streets with serious swag, urban bicycle is difficult to beat, since it’s small, reliable, emission-free, healthy and (most importantly) cheap. With the cost of gas skyrocketing, the world sees an unprecedented number of cyclists flooding the streets (thank you very much). Some countries can boast of as much as 50% of its population choosing bikes over cars and that means only one thing - urban bikes are already mainstream. FlyKly, the main sponsor of this challenge, is just the right example to illustrate cyclists’ devotion to finding the smoothest and smartest way to travel.
“Urban cycling is on the rise. More and more people everyday use bicycle to go to work and/or school. Cycling is a great solution to commute in the city, escape the traffic, save the environment and be part of the community. FlyKly is dedicated to making bicycle friendly cities and improving the way we travel from A to Z in the fastest, smoothest and smartest way possible. And FlyKly is street smart – delivering smarter tools for smarter urban transportation for people on the move. With this challenge, FlyKly would like to encourage designers to design innovative accessories for urban cycling that will be available instantly to 3D print and fun to use in order to make the urban cycling fun, safe and smart,” - said Niko Klansek, Founder of FlyKly.
Dealing with mainstream is easy. Everyone wants to stand out from the crowd, so using 3D printing to give the consumers an opportunity to add a personal touch to the original product design (even if it’s wheel decoration) can be a real game-changer. Just another massive step towards mass-customization.
So, you probably feel where we’re heading. The 3D Printed Bicycle Accessories Challenge is all about taming that two-wheeled urban beast. As usual, there are no bad ideas. If you feel like inventing new must-haves, go ahead, but we literally need everything that looks smart and can improve the urban biking experience: a carrying handle, valve caps, mirrors, wall mounts, bottle holders, mud guards or handlebar grips. Or anything else that you think would prove handy.
Take a break, go for a ride and come back inspired to make people’s lives easier.
There are two categories of awards in this challenge. Each of them will have one winner and two runner-ups.
The award will be given for the best 3D printable Bicycle Accessories-related models uploaded during the challenge period.
