The method of treatment with the device developed by Ekhart Klob in 1992 - a vacuum dome (Vacuum Bell, hereinafter referred to as the device) has become quite widespread in the world. The essence of the method is that a vacuum suction cup consisting of a silicone ring (cuff) and a viewing window is installed over the deformation, this suction cup gradually makes the chest more mobile and over time the deformation decreases. The method is more effective in children and adolescents with non-rigid (soft) deformations, the Internet is also full of cases where treatment of PVDK was used with a positive result and at the age of 20 to 40 years. Of course, together with the device, it is necessary to use a set of physical exercises, breathing practices.

Over the past decades, this method has proven itself as an effective and safe way to correct PVDK in patients who want to avoid surgical intervention.

For each patient, the device is selected individually depending on the height and shape of the ventral surface of the chest.

The size of the device should exceed the size of the funnel-shaped deformation, but not go beyond the chest to prevent spontaneous loss of tightness of the bell and to eliminate discomfort when pulling up the abdominal wall in the epigastric region.A special valve is used to re-aerate the bell, since a sharp elimination of the vacuum is undesirable.

According to accumulated experience, the device should be used daily for at least 30 minutes two or three times a day for 4-6 weeks, gradually increasing the time of use to 8-12 hours per day depending on the age of the child.The device does not interfere with everyday life and some types of physical activity. It is not recommended to use the device during water procedures and active sports. All patients need to keep an individual diary (indicating the time of wearing the device) and a photo diary (photo in direct projection and with a 3/4 turn).All patients at the initial appointment are informed about the possibilities of conservative and surgical methods of correcting pectus excavatum. There are currently no clear indications for using the device, but this method is offered to patients of different ages with varying degrees of deformation.
