Overall, this is a nice rendition of that legendary yacht. I am building the kit at the scale of 1/48th (original design comes at 1/60th) by scaling up all the parts by 125%. The kit presents some very nice shapes overall but it has some issues:
- The second section of the hull has a large and thick spine between the salon tables, where in fact, there should be windows integrated in the deck.
- The cabin is very, very simplified, unfortunately. The front cabin wall on the real boat, only has 3 windows and one door, instead of the 4 windows presented by the kit. The side windows are non-existent. The rear will require a complete rework to make it more realistic.
- The sides of the hull are missing the unfolding panels/decks which are increasing the size of the deck, when the yacht is moored. A simple line could have been planned in the design.
- The stern again, does not have the panel hiding the folding staircase.
- The hull is missing completely the propulsion system and it is regrettable.
- The tender offered with the kit is a regular wood dinghy, when in fact WALLY provides a rubber dinghy and a crane located in the bow.
- The air intakes on the side of the hull, are closed. They should be open.
Overall, the kit is very affordable and it comes with some limitations. With a little bit more research, the designer of this kit could have created a real scale model of that fantastic yacht and not just an approximation. The kit presents a very good base but will require significant work to turn it into a decent scale model.
