The first serial version of Spitfire. In many identified prototypes, it differs from it only by minor modifications of the power set. The aircraft of this type (serial number of the first copy - K9787) made its first flight on May 15, 1938 and began operating in combat units in August-September of that year. The first unit - the 19th Squadron of the Royal Air Force - was armed with these Spitfires until December 1938. A total of 1,567 vehicles of this type were built.
