Bavaria Shipyards #3: first class coastal defense battleship La Tonnerre
With this kit you will have the chance to print your own 1/100 model of the coastal battleship La Tonnere of the french navy. The battleship or monitor as she is sometimes reffered to, is a very unique vessel, her sole armament is the dual turret in the front. The Superstructure is only 2.4cm wide and thus the turret has an almost 360^ firing ark.
However if you decide to build a RC model, you should be careful with your maneuvers, since she tends to be rather top-heavy and can easily roll in winds and rough water, just like her real version.
A quick summary of what you are getting:
Historical note:Single-turret vessels with the hull mostly steel though retaining wrought iron armour. The turret was 10.5m in diameter with a central fixed 1.4m diameter shaft which supported a conning tower protected by an armoured collar on the turret. The superstructure was only 2.4m wide and it was theoretically possible to fire right astern, though it was reported that an attempt by Tonnerre to do so in 1884 blew away the fore pan of the superstructure, Tonnerre is also said to have come near to capsizing when turning hard a port under the combined action of screw and rudder. She had the reconstructed engine of the Normandie.
