FGS Braunschweig - Model for small scale printing

FGS Braunschweig - Model for small scale printing 3D print model

Description

The FGS Braunschweig is the lead ship of the class also known as the K130 Corvettes of the German Navy. First ship to be laid down was Braunschweig in 2004, replacing the older Gepard-class of fast attack crafts. She entered service in 2008 and was later joined by her four sisterships Madgeburg, Erfurt, Oldenburg aund Ludwigshafen am Rhein. The last units entered service in 2013, all units are stationed at Warnemünde.

This class is capable of completing missions all around the world, even though the ships themselves are quite small. Still they feature a OTO Melara 76mm cannon, 2 Mk49 RIM 116 RAM and 4 Saab Antiship missiles, though RGM-84 Harpoons can be fitted. These weapons, combined with a capable Radar and ELINT suite make the small corvettes a capable unit in all theatres, however they are designed to operate in coastal regions and shallow waters. With the additional capability to lay mines and take on helicopters as well as UAVs, these small corvettes are better equipped than some bigger frigates, increasing the overall capabilities of the German Navy.

Due to the multifunctionality, low cost and modern equipment, Germany decided to add five more units, increasing the amount to 10 overall. The first corvette of the second batch, Köln, was laid down in 2019 and launched in 2021, expecting commission in 2025. Her four sisterships Emden, Karlsruhe, Augsburg and Lübeck have also been laid down and will see service within the decade. As of May 2023, the first batch cost around 1.2 Billion Euros, 240 Million Euros per unit. This price increased to 2 Billion Euros for the second batch to 400 Million Euros per unit.

Note: This model is recommended to be used in the 1/2000 scale. The models itself isnt scaled, the scale table is down below.

1/4000: 2,2cm or 0.86in

1/3000: 2,9cm or 1.14in

1/2000: 4,45cm or 1.75in

1/1000: 8,9cm or 3.5in

For self calculation: The Braunschweig is roughly 89m or 292ft long.

The model is intended to be used with little supports as possible, yet some are recommended below the barrel of the main gun and antennas on the two masts. I recommend using a resin printer for this. Up and Downsclaling might be possible, yet I dont know to what extend.

If you face issues with the model, have questions or want to propose some changes, please reach out to me, I am always happy to help. I am also open for suggetions for new ships which I havent done yet, as I am looking to expand my catalogue of ships.
