(Update 2024: There is a new 1:24 Aoshima Back to the Future 1 DeLorean model kit that finally gets it right. So much so that if redoing it today I would start with that model and forego the hassel of making all these 3D printable parts for the Sun Star model.)

I used these files to turn a Sun Star 1:18 DeLorean model into the Back to the Future 1 car. But you could use the parts to super detail any Back to the Future DeLorean model…including models in other scales if you rescale the files.

The STL were designed to be printed through Shapeways in fine detail plastic. But Shapeways went out of business. So Shapeways is no longer an option.

The larger parts can be printed on an FDM printer. That’s what I did.

If you have a resin 3D printer. You can pull individual part files from the Sketchup files. Note that the Sketchup files are 10x larger due to Sketchup performing poorly at small scales. That means all files exported to STL will need to be reduced to 1/10 the size.

Included are digital cutter files I used to cut adhesive vinyl to make various details. The digital cutter files are all in SVG or Adobe Illustrator format. Depending on your digital cutter and software you may need to convert them to another format like DXF. And you will also find some files for making decals. I use a color laser printer and Micro Mark decal paper.

The Flux Capacitor is designed to be lit by 0.25mm fiber optics.

The taillights on the Sun Star DeLorean are slightly off and so don’t line up with the back vents properly. I made alternative lights but the extra work wasn’t worth it in my opinion, since the Sun Star taillights technically look better even if they are a bit incorrect.

I also redid the hinge for the gull wing doors but it proved problematic. Sticking with the stock hinge system on the Sun Star model, even with the oversized screws intruding on the cabin, is a much easier option.
