This is a model of a (not historical) medieval Scandinavian standing stone, standing on a low mound on a small peninsula in a body of water. This menhir is old and must have been accompanid by supporting stones, of which there is only one left. Carvings can be seen on the standing stone; a tree has wound itself around it, supporting the weight of its trunk on the accompanying stone. While the scene is purely fictional, the intention is for it to look like a remnant from the Viking Era. The carvings on the menhir show a band in a traditional Norse design and a depiction of Yggdrasil, the Viking tree of life.
The model consists of four separate files:
The base with a depression textured like the bed of a stream winding around the peninsula (you might want to fill the depression with epoxy resin to simulate the water when you build the diorama - just a suggestion ...) There are indentations in the base to show where the separate parts are to be placed and glued.
The carved standing stone.
The accompanying smaller stone.
The tree
All parts are highly textured, so that in order to create a nice desktop diorama you only have to paint the parts accordingly. Of course you can enhance the scenery by adding twigs and foliage to the tree, moss to the stones and sand and pebbles to the ground, but there is no real need to do this. My Ready Made Diorama-series is for users who do not want to have to mess around with additional diorama materials to create an enchanting little scenery.
The Carved Viking Standing Stone can very well be incorporated into a model train landscape as a fascinating extra that can not be found among the usual model train sceneries. It can also serve as a part of a desktop game or be built into a bigger diorama of your own design.
The model was sculpted with Nomad Sculpt on my iPad. The files provided are stl-files. The base of the model has a diameter of roughly 120 mm, making it possible to be placed under one of the costumary glas dome sizes. Of course it is up to you to change the size according to your own wishes.
