Pentaceratops was a large ceratopsid dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 75 to 73 million years ago. Measuring up to 6.5 meters (21 feet) in length and weighing around 5 metric tons, it was characterized by its large skull, which featured five prominent horns: one on its nose, one above each eye, and two on its frill. The frill itself was large and decorated with epoccipitals (small bony projections). As a herbivore, Pentaceratops had a beak-like mouth for cropping vegetation and strong jaw muscles for chewing. Its fossils have been primarily found in the Kirtland Formation in New Mexico, USA, providing valuable insights into the diversity and adaptations of horned dinosaurs.
