Inostrancevia was a large therapsid, belonging to the group of proto-mammals known as gorgonopsians, that lived during the Late Permian period, around 260 to 254 million years ago. Measuring up to 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) in length, it was one of the top predators of its time. Inostrancevia had a robust body with a large skull, characterized by long, saber-like canine teeth adapted for hunting large prey. Its strong limbs and sharp claws also suggest it was an effective hunter. Fossils of Inostrancevia have been found in Russia, offering crucial insights into the diversity and adaptations of pre-dinosaurian terrestrial predators.
