Bubo the Owl articulated

Bubo the Owl articulated 3D print model

Description

Based on the mechanical owl featured in the 1981 Clash of the Titans,** Bubo has been remodeled and redesigned to allow for easy printing and full articulation of major body parts. ** Wings, legs, talons, and head can be posed. Most of the body parts have been designed to easily snap together or can be bound together using the the custom bolts designed for the legs and torso, and by using m3 screws and nuts to more firmly bind jointed areas in the wings, legs, and feet. M3 screws are a perfect fit at default scale. A version of the rear torso, with the tail attached, has been supplied as a print option. The tail is the only part not designed to snap into place or doesn't have a printable element to attach it.

The default height, once assembled, is approximately 150mm. If scaled up or down, measure the screw holes and find the appropriate screw and nut size for the resized model.. All parts have been printed and tested using a resin printer, but should also work with a finely calibrated FDM. I've also printed it a half scale to ensure that the pivots can still snap together without breaking. There should be a few examples depicted in thet sample imagery attached to this posting.

Several of the attached images show early tests and a few of the initial structural designs created for the wing. The initial design only rotated on a single axis, but the current rotates up and down at elbow, while all other pivots allow the wing to folder and bend. This allows for more interesting poses, despite the limited range of rotation.

This looks like a lot of fun to print and build, but I'm confused by the two large holes in the back of the model. I understand that inside, the holes are meant to meet the pegs from the inside of the front piece, but I am unclear as to why the holes go all the way through the back. Is this meant for some exterior mounting? Something I'm missing? Thanks!

Follow up to previous comment, I kept getting errors with a couple of slicers but I went ahead and printed started printing and the parts have come out excellent. I am very happy with the results. I wish that there was a instruction letting you know how many parts need to be printed but after a little trial and error it has been going fine. I really like this model and confirm that it is a lot of fun to assemble and add to add to my collection. Good Job!!

We really like the model but when we tried to print it we kept getting mesh errors. Working at this moment to fix all of the errors and then get back to you with what our final print looks like. I am giving it a positive rating at this time, but after I get the model fixed and printed then I will be happy to do a follow up.
