Bubo is based on the mechanical owl featured in the 1982 Clash of the Titans. Bubo comes mounted on a custom tree branch, commemorating the introductory scene of the character in the original film, with an artistic twist. Unlike the branch in the film, this mount is designed to be simple, but sturdy. Bubo version 4 has been optimized to improve the output of feather details. The perch has been reduced in scale, allowing the majority of material and time to be focused on the main character.
Bubo has very thin legs and lots of small details. The default scale may not be ideal for some printers or inexperienced printers. Experience, patience, and strategically placed support was necessary when I 1st tried to print Bubo. Plan your strategy well. Pay attention to the slicer overhang warnings and all should be fine. SLA and MLA require similar strategies, but you have to account for curing time and material weight as well. If not willing to put in a little time and planning, possibly mods to fit a small print area at larger scale, then try to model your own or try something less complex until you are ready. Just after the 2021 updates and additions, I started a resin print, using basic slicer settings and supports on the inverted model. Printing at 85% scale, for my smaller print area, it finished without any issues, in less than 3 hours. So, it prints easily. Just be careful around the legs on cleanup.
2021 update: Fixed an internal topological issue and created another printing option, which should make things easier for novice 3d print enthusiasts. A copy of Bubo split in half (top/bottom) is now available.
**2020 update: **includes Bubo without perch and the separated perch, making it easier to print each.
