ANY SIZE Infinity Rings parametric modeling Program

ANY SIZE Infinity Rings parametric modeling Program 3D print model

Description

I present to your attention the result of my work for half a year. I've been fine-tuning the program and making requests from clients, but I'm still working on it and you will have interesting updates in the future.

Anyone with a Rhino can create a printable model in minutes. Any sizes of rings and any sizes of diamonds. 20+ designs All you need to create any ring from the collection is an Environment File and a Script File. The PDF file contains the entire description of the program, but you can always contact me for technical support.

The consumers of this project are all jewelers and setters who want to produce an infinity ring.

In my work I used Rhinoceros and Grasshopper. The input data for the program are the ring parameters - Finger size (ring inner diameter), top diamond size and side diamond size. As well as several clarifying parameters that allow you to achieve a harmonious shape and sufficient thickness of the prongs.

Bonus collection shows a special case of setting program parameters.

One ring size (US7 - 17.4mm) and 1 diamond size (Top 2mm and side 1.8mm) The number of diamonds in one line is 32 pieces. In five designs, from 1 to 5 lines of top diamonds. One ring size (US7 - 17.4mm) and 1 diamond size (Top 3mm and side 2.5mm) The number of diamonds in one line is 23 pieces. In five designs from 1 to 5 lines of top diamonds.

I made a Bonus collection for people who want to test models and try printing before buying the main product - parametric modeling programs of all options and sizes. Bonus demo collection can be downloaded from the link -

The objective of the project is to create an infinity ring with multi-sided setting of diamonds for 3D printing in resin and subsequent casting in metal.

Problem solving (what pain the program relieves):

  1. Saving 70-90% of the time, you get either a blank with diamond markings, or a finished ring in which you just need to set the diamonds and polish.
  2. The program does all the calculations and the user sees the result.
  3. You can print 10-40 blanks at once and also cast several rings at once. And then just set the diamonds.
  4. The appearance of the ring can be seen 5 minutes after the start of entering the parameters, and show it to the customer. The program provides a model for visualizations that can be used to create a catalog.
  5. You do not need to search for a model, you enter the initial parameters and get a finished model for 3D printing and visualizations.
  6. The program automatically makes all the cutting steps similar to those that a jeweler does with his hands, with an accuracy inaccessible to a person.
  7. When casting a 3D model, the human factor tends to zero, the main thing is to carefully set the diamonds and polish the product.
  8. The program gives accurate results of the volume of workpieces, which are multiplied by the specific gravity of the metal and get accurate data on the weight of the workpiece and the required metal. Supports and accessories are easy to remove, assemble and recycle.
  9. The table also displays data on the size and number of diamonds, which gives an understanding of the cost of the finished product.

The final result exceeded all expectations.

Within 5-10 minutes, anyone without knowledge of modeling and the intricacies of 3D software can get a model for printing with support for high-quality casting of all protruding elements. Any custom size.

Saving time for a jeweler reaches 70-90%. After printing and casting the model in metal, the jeweler only needs to set the diamonds and polish the product.

The ring is available in 5 designs - With one, two, three, four, and five lines of diamonds. With or without side diamonds. With or without through holes. The size of the ring can vary from 10mm in diameter to 100mm in diameter if it is a bracelet or other design ideas. The size of the upper diamond can be selected from 1 mm to 4 mm (limited by the slider parameters - more can be) Side diamonds can be from 0.9mm to 3.5mm (limited by the slider parameters - more can be) But it should be borne in mind that the side diamond should be smaller in diameter than the top one by about 10%.

The output model is available in 4 versions -

  1. Model for 3D visualizations (demonstration in the store)
  2. Model for 3D printing without auxiliary supports
  3. Model for 3D printing with author's auxiliary supports for high-quality prints of all prongs and other protruding elements, as well as high-quality casting of the model in metal.
  4. Model blank with markings for the location of diamonds for manual sawing (the method is suitable for old-school jewelers)

Problems (Pain) that I solved with my product -

  1. A lot of time spent on making the ring manually.
  2. The complexity of calculations for positioning diamonds in multi-sided setting.
  3. The complexity of scaling production when manually creating rings.
  4. It is difficult to imagine and show the product to the customer before it is made.
  5. It is difficult to find a model on the Internet that would be suitable for the parameters of diamonds and customer requirements.
  6. The design of the ring involves complex manual work in the Gold Matrix (Modeling such a ring by hand takes a lot of time). If the calculations made by hand are not accurate enough, then the model needs to be redone. Just changing the size of a diamond immediately makes all blanks useless and you need to do everything anew.
  7. The human factor in the manufacture of the ring (you can ruin the workpiece and have to do many steps again)
  8. You never know how much metal it will take to make a ring and how much sawdust will be (which will need to be processed)
  9. It is difficult to predict the price of a product, because until you start working on it, the final number and size of diamonds is unknown.
