St. Lazarus is mentioned in the Gospel of Luke as a leper in Christ's parable about the rich man and the leper. The rich man who dressed in fine robes and ate extravagant foods died and went to Hell while St. Lazarus ate scraps from the rich man's table that even the dog's didn't want. When St. Lazarus died, he went to Heaven.
St. Lazarus is the patron saint of lepers, against leprosy, the poor, the sick, and the Order of Saint Lazarus, better known as the Knights of Malta.
