ORTHODOX PENDANT WITH ST. GEORGE THE VICTORIOUS
St. George, the victorious, striking a serpent with a spear, is one of the most famous legends of St. George.
According to the legend, there was a huge, dragon-like serpent that settled in a lake near a city. It devoured people and livestock, poisoning the air with its poisonous breath, and no one could defeat the monster.
One day, it was the turn of the daughter of the city's ruler. She was terrified, waiting for her death, when a rider on a white horse suddenly appeared and charged at the serpent that had emerged from the lake. The rider pressed the serpent's throat to the ground with his spear, and his horse began to trample the creature with its hooves.
Then the hero ordered the girl to tie a belt around the defeated serpent and lead it to the city. The townspeople were amazed when they saw the creature walking on a leash, like a docile dog. St. George told them that he had conquered the serpent through the power of God. After that, the entire city decided to accept holy baptism.
