Reed (ācatl):
Reeds, or ācatl, were common plants in the wetlands around Tenochtitlan. These versatile plants had multiple uses for the Aztecs. They were used to build houses, weave mats, make arrows, and create musical instruments.
The reed was also a symbol of fertility and abundance. In Aztec mythology, Tlaloc, the god of rain, was depicted with a headdress made of reeds. The reeds symbolized the life that sprouted from the earth after the rain.
