Movement (ollin):
The Aztec universe was a dynamic place, in constant motion. The sun and moon danced in the sky, the stars moved in their orbits, and the earth itself trembled with earthquakes. Ollin, movement, was an omnipresent force that permeated everything that existed.
One of the most important deities related to movement was Tezcatlipoca, the god of the night sky and the earth. Tezcatlipoca was known as the smoking mirror, since his face was black as obsidian and reflected the movement of the universe.
The Aztecs also believed that movement was essential for life. Dance, music, and war were activities that celebrated the movement and vitality of the human being.
