The Star of David (Hebrew: Magen David מָגֵן דָּוִד), David's shield, is a shape composed of two equilateral triangles, one facing up and the other facing down, which are placed on top of each other. This sign is used in various religions and beliefs, especially Judaism today. [1] [2]

In the 19th century, the use of the Star of David intensified among Eastern European Jews, especially Russian and Ukrainian Jews. One of the main reasons for the spread of its use was to counter the Christian cross. The first uses of the Star of David are in the early texts of the Kabbalah in Hebrew, and it is usually used as a sigil for magical practices and is known as the Seal of Solomon. This symbol was also used in many Christian churches. Until the 19th century, the use of the Star of David among Jews was officially done only in the Czech Republic, Austria, parts of Germany and Prague.

With the creation of the Zionist movement, this symbol became the symbol of this movement and was chosen as the symbol of the Zionist movement in the first Zionist Congress in 1897.

The first references to the Star of David or the Shield of David and its connection with the hexagon were made in the 17th century. The phrase David's shield is used in Siddur (Jewish prayers) as another name for the God of Israel.
