This bridal hair accessory is inspired by two things: Chinese paper art of the mythological phoenix and the hat worn by Benvenuto Cellini’s sculpture, Perseus.
In Chinese culture, the phoenix is considered the symbol of the queen. The ancient Chinese people believed that a phoenix passing by would bring peace and fortune to the empire. In literature, the phoenix represents true love. So I used this legendary bird as an inspiration to develop a modern bridal accessory that expresses the coming peaceful and lovable life with the bride’s true love.
For the overall shape, I wanted to add some strength and make the wearer feel more confident. To do that, the design takes inspiration from the feathered hat given to Perseus by Athena for protection from Medusa’s sisters. I hope this feathered accessory gives the bride confidence for the many adventures ahead~
