Gort Helmet

Gort Helmet 3D print model

Description

Full size Gort helmet from the 1951 black and white movie The Day the Earth Stood Still. This helmet was meant for display but it also features a movable visor. If you want to use it for costume wear, you will have to create your own cranial cap and mount for the inside (bump caps may be found at warehouse supply stores). With all of the different sized heads out there, I didn't want to create multiple hat sizes. A cool thing to do would be to get a servo to get the visor to open and close.

This is a very large helmet when assembled and is broken down to 8 pieces with locating holes for pins, to ensure that parts are aligned perfectly when glued together. The visor is divided into 2 pieces to make the grand total parts of 10. The largest piece is 223 in the X-Y direction and 205 in the Z direction, so it should fit on most medium sized printers. I recommend using 1/16" brass rod and cut several pieces to 9mm long for the pins. Brass has strength but can be bent easily with mechanical tools but you can also wire or toothpicks if you chose, just drill out the locating holes to the diameter you need.
