ALIUS is a High Precision, Reliable, 3 axis vertical milling machine capable of milling steels from aluminium right up to mild steel and stainless steels. ALIUS is a world first when it comes to workbench size milling machines, it has flood coolant fed from a pump mounted in a drawer style coolant tank situated beneath the machine. ALIUS has optional air blast capabilities using nothing but the best SMC air solenoids.

Did i mention the ALIUS is an all enclosed, 3 door machine ? doors made of thick poly carbonate with elegant stainless steel handles mean no need to worry about chip or coolant spatter it all drains into the easily removable inbuilt strainers within the coolant tank.

ALIUS is the most Rigid, Noise and Vibration Damping machine available in its size on the market, how we achieve this is by using Epoxy Granite filled Mild steel framing with adjustable leveling, active damping machine feet.

Although other desktop machines are available, they suffer from lack of a rigidity and under powered axis drive to machine steels, but this machine does it all! and it does it with 3 x 12nm brushless hybrid stepper motors, GT2 belts and double nut precision ball screws to ensure no backlash.

All axis beds are made from mild steel billet and ground precision surfaces for a rigid accurate base.

For the enthusiasts who have limited or no access to machinery for making the machined components here is an option for you:

• If you have access to a 3d printer, many of the components can be 3d printed as moulds ! the moulds can then be filled with your very own concoction of epoxy granite !! once the moulds have been broken away or removed, the epoxy granite item would only need a fine hand sand to bring to a smooth finish.

what is epoxy granite ?

Epoxy Granite is a Synthetic Granite. It is a mixture of common epoxy resin and granite or rock. Usually produced using a mixture of different sized Rocks and common Sand. For smooth surface finishes a machine builder would use a sand layer near the surface of a mould. Epoxy Granite is an alternative material for machine tool bases.

This option is by far the most accepted in the industry which many machines use, like STUDER for example.

Epoxy granite offers far superior “rigity”, “damping”, “tool life” and corrosion resistance than steels or alloys. Epoxy granite is also chemically unaffected. Epoxy granite is also much more cost effective to the DIY machine builder.

*Option 2 if you have no access to machinery or 3d printers, would be to use MDF moulds to produce the parts, although more work is involved, MDF has proven itself in the DIY machining world, for producing great components when used as mould with epoxy granite fill.
