Low relief Industrial buildings are commonly used on model railways as back scenes and I thought these would be good to add to my collection of models. Many of these low relief industrial buildings you can buy generally are only about 5mm to 8mm deep, for many layouts people haven’t got a lot of room for a version that is any deeper. Some modellers do have the space so I have developed this design with different depths, 10mm, 40mm and 70mm (OO scale). The 40mm and 70mm versions will give more depth to your layout if you have got the space for these designs.
Also many industrial estates are made up of various designs of industrial buildings so I am designing various versions of industrial low relief buildings. I have also created versions for the front and rear of these buildings depending on where you situate these on your model railway. Some people may have them against to railway and therefor need the rears and other people may create a road scene with industrial building fronts.
These models have been designed to be printed on FDM printers but could also be printed on resin printers as long as the build area is large enough, resin maybe more suited for N scale. When printing these models you will need to add supports to support roofs and any over hangs.
This version is approx. 160mm wide and 86mm high in OO scale. This design is from a MOT test centre, when I saw this building I thought it would be a good design to add to my collection of low relief industrial buildings.
designed at OO gauge, 1/76.2 scale but can easily be scaled for other gauges.for HO gauge print at 87%, 1/87 Scale, for O gauge UK at 175%, 1/43.5 Scale, for O gauge International print at 158%, 1/48 Scale, for N gauge print at 51.49%, 1/148 Scale
The examples in the pictures were printed on a Bambu Labs A1 FDM Printer. As normal with my designs, there is a balance between accuracy and printability, hopefully not affecting the look of the model too much.
For FDM printing I used a 0.4mm nozzle and a layer height of 0.12mm using PLA filament.
