The US Navy’s Arleigh Burke Class of Guided Missile Destroyers (DDGs) has strike, anti submarine and anti aircraft capabilities. Notable physical characteristics are the electronically scanned radar arrays and the guided missile Vertical Launch Systems (VLS), helicopter landing pads and hanger bays.
Hull and deck line drawings of the Flight IIA variant of the Arleigh Burke DDG were used to design a 1/96 scale model suitable for Radio Control. Visual details were picked off from the USS Nathan James (DDG-151) of “The Last Ship” TV Series and photos of the USS Dewey (DDG-105).The flat sides of the Arleigh Burke DDG’s upper deck superstructures permitted the design of detailed panels that could be printed on a flat bed for maximum resolution and ease of assembly. Hull details includes dual rudder posts, 9mm propeller bores, sonar dome, bilge strakes, and anchor passageways. Hull access is provided through two removable superstructures and a rudder hatch.Scale details include: Sonar dome, 5 inch gun, Phalanx CIWS, ODIN, Aegis/Fire Control radars, VLS launchers, Harpoon Anti Ship missiles, life rafts canisters, RHIBs, SATCOM domes, five blade propellers and an ASW Helicopter. Dual mounts for 550 or 750 type Mabuchi brushed motors and a servo mount are included.
The model dimensions are: 1605.2 mm x 227.2mm x 538.7 mm
