Symbioso repair part for 30x30mm square wooden part. Look for other dimensions on my store or ask for a custom size for no extra charge!
Symbioso is a repair part designed to fix a broken wooden element. Its role is to join and keep the two parts togheter, while gluing or forever, as the final result needs. It adopt 3D printing technology to provide everyday life a helping hand, so it will created with few euros and fix the broken part, that may lead to trashing the whole broken object.
An example of its use, is a chair leg, as happened to us. While playing with the chair, it got broken, and we were close to trash the whole Ikea chair, for a value of 60€, plus all the travels to the dump and the closest Ikea store to find another one, to match the room design. So, having access to a basic PLA 3D printing machine (RepRap) we decided to find a good looking solution. Based on few years of experience in printing PLA plastic functional parts for robotics prototyping, we designed and printed this object, to be then declined to different objects and sizes.
The use is very simple, print it following the 3D printing setup config datas given in a txt file you'll find in model download section, slide it on your wooden section, join the broken part (cleaned a bit to allow the best match) with some glue as well (optional). Keep the break line in the middle. After that, use some wood slef-threading screws to fix Symbioso to the wooden parts. Et voilà, you are done.
Please, keep in mind that you will always need a bit of tolerances when printing your parts. 3D models provided have 2mm tolerance to make the sliding process possible and easier.
