Description:
The GBU-10 A/B Paveway I is a laser guided bomb (LGB).
The GBU-10 Paveway I is an American Paveway-series laser-guided bomb, based on the Mk 84 general-purpose bomb, but with laser seeker and wings for guidance.Introduced into service c.1976. Used by USAF, US Navy, US Marine Corps, Royal Australian Air Force and various NATO air forces.
The GBU-10 A/B Paveway I is intended for precision bombing against non-hardened targets. It consists of abolt-on gimballed seeker head and Computer Control Group (CCG) and a stabilizing tail airfoil assembly attached to aconventional Mk84 gravity bomb. This converts the Mk84 into a laser-guided weapon that homes in on a reflectedlaser beam transmitted from a ground or air-based laser designator. A Paveway I-series bomb steers to the target usingbang-bang guidance, where the control surfaces are always fully deflected. This results in a relatively inefficient flightpath. Consequentially, the Paveway I-series has limited standoff capabilities. Its sensor also was limited by mist andfog.
