Leaping in from the wilds of the late Cretaceous comes Velociraptor (un-feathered variant)!
While modern media has often associated Velociraptor with a certain popular scifi franchise's large and super-intelligent cloned dinosaurs, the real Velociraptor was a far cry from the resurrected movie-monster version. In life, Velociraptor was actually a small and lightweight predator growing to just a little over 6ft (2m) long from snout to tail but overall was no bigger than a border collie. While possessing nowhere near the intelligence of the antagonist dinosaurs of Hollywood blockbusters, Velociraptors had a moderate brain-to-body proportion and design that was more intelligent than most modern-day reptiles but still less than that of most modern-day birds. While active and decently nimble, the real Velociraptor was not a reptilian ninja with superhuman agility and acrobatic abilities. Finally, due to fossil evidence of earlier ancestors and cousins, along with skeletal features uncovered in the late 90s, we now know that Velociraptors were not scaly beasts but were covered in feathers similar to modern day birds, even possessing wing-feathers that while not capable of flight could still be utilized for running stability, aggressive displays, and possibly even courtship like modern flightless birds such as ostriches.
This model, however, is un-feathered for those who still love the older interpretations of these famous prehistoric hunters. A separate feathered model will be available in the near future.
This model is 1/12 scale of the real Velociraptor, which will scale with other 1/12 scale lines such as Figma, Star Wars Black Series, Marvel Legends, etc. Interestingly, due to the figure's size it will also scale decently with 1/18 scale figure lines as a stand-in for the Hollywood Velociraptors, such as Jurassic World Hammond Collection, Star Wars Vintage Collection, and more!
This print is designed currently for SLS nylon through Sculpteo.com using polished 60um tolerance nylon. It has not been tested in any other material or process so far, printing through any other way or material should be done at user’s discretion.
When using SLS Nylon from sites such as Sculpteo, only use raw or polished finishes for either PA12 or PA12 (HD-60μm). Avoid using Chemically-Smoothed option as this will cause joints to be too loose and will not hold poses. No other materials have been tested for this print, be it professional or home-printers, so print and experiment at your own discretion.
