To help complete the get up for Animated Optimus Prime, here's the Magnus Hammer!
And here's Prime wielding it when it has its internal lights turned on (more on that in a bit!).
One thing to note here, is that the lights appear different on both ends of the hammer. And that's because for our testing, we had only bought one white and one blue LED to see how the effect would differ. And what we can see is that the white LED shining through the clear-blue painted translucent print looks brighter, while the blue LED would lend itself to a richer blue glow. So, it's really a matter of preference!
And with the lights back on, here's how the light up mechanism works. It's really just a pair of simple mini magnetically activated LED circuits held in place at both ends. And while we could just be swinging a strong magnet beside the hammer to turn it on and off, we've opted for a more on-theme approach in the form of this AllSpark key!
The magic lies in the magnet which is hidden in the tip of the key itself, and with this in hand, the hammer can be turned on with a simple tap of the key on the side!
And of course, you will just need to really gear Prime up with his entire Wingblade addon (https://www.patreon.com/posts/96651383) to complete the look.
Optionally, a longer stave has also been provided if you would like to go for this full length look.
Coming over to Wingblade Prime's alt mode, the shorter stave collapses down and is able notch onto the rectangular peg in the back.
=== Assembly ===
The attached diagram shows the exploded view of the parts for this set, and how they go together.
A solid version of the hammer head has also been provided if you do not choose to do a light up version.
The magnet used is one of 5mm diameter and 3mm height.
The magnetically activated LED light is something like this one here on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3Sshdnh
For printing of the parts, the HeadHollow-Ends will need to be printed in some clear or translucent filament and then painted over with some clear blue paint to get the glowing effect.
=== Removing the Hammer Head for Maintenance ===
There will be instances where the hammer head needs to be removed after being assembled - for changing of the LED, replacing dead batteries, etc.
To do this, carefully pry them apart with a twisting motion of a hobby blade or similarly thin but strong implement.
You may need to alternate slowly on all four sides of the piece, but it should pop right off.
===
And there we have it - the fabled Magnus Hammer with a fun little light up feature to bring a little bit of dramatic flair to your Animated Optimus Prime!
Hope y'all would like it - and happy 3d printing! =)
