Also known as a collared peccary, the javelina is a piglike animal whose habitat ranges from the southwestern United States to northern Argentina. They are distantly related to pigs. They eat plants, including cacti, and are known to rummage through trash bins in the suburbs. They have incredibly sharp fangs which is why most people who live with them believe they are dangerous. They live in family units called squadrons which can include up to 50 javelinas. I've had many encounters with these adorable animals. I once had a garden of prickly pears and squash and they came into the back yard and ate them.
