The main character, Darkwing Duck, also known as Drake Mallard, is an anthropomorphic duck with a brave and somewhat clumsy personality. Together, they face a variety of villains and strive to protect St. Canard from any threat. In addition to Gosalyn, Darkwing Duck also receives assistance from Launchpad McQuack, a skilled and loyal pilot who previously served as the adventure partner of Scrooge McDuck in the series DuckTales.

Each episode presents a combination of action, comedy, and adventure as Darkwing Duck confronts extravagant villains such as Megavolt, Negaduck, Quackerjack, and many others.
